No hard drive spin?

Hi,

So I recently purchased an iPod video 5th gen, had a smashed screen. I took it apart fitted the screen, looking forward to see it working... Oh no! I get the 'sad face error'.

Can somebody tell me whether it could be the ribbon or the hard drive? I thought to myself, how can it be a hard drive fault, it was working the night before, and I never knock it hard etc.. So it must be the ribbon right? The hard drive doesn't spin, but it was working last night, playing music and that!

Many thanks, please help!

P.s on the hard drive ribbon they is two lines. I can see one of the lines, does it have to be so you cannot see any?

Solewolf67, double check your work and make sure that the cable is inserted straight, and that you have it properly connected, on both ends. Yes, you will see one line. It is possible that it is your cable, and it is also possible that it is your HDD. After all, you are dealing with a used iPod, and you are dealing with someone elses problems. I would invest in a USB-to-Zif adapter and use it to check the HDD. The adapter runs about $5. Of course, you also want to change the cable, just to make sure it did not break internally when the screen got change. Hope this helps, good luck.
