Power button NOT working, but volume buttons ARE?

Hello! I am currently putting a new screen assemmbly on a 4G iPod Touch. As I was testing out the new screen, I ran across a problem though.

The power button doesn't appear to be working. However, the volume buttons are working.

For example. I can't power on the iPdo Touch with the power button, however I can plug it into a power source to turn it on. When I click the camera button on the lock screen, I can take pictures with the UP volume button. Normally, when something is wrong with the power button it means the power button/volume ribbon cable was nicked. However it looks just fine, and at least one of the volume buttons are working. Can anyone help me out? Thanks!
