Why can't my iPhone 3GS charge or turn on?

It all began with me braking my iPhone 3GS completely by dropping it. The Glass, digitizer and LCD had to be changed. So i took apart the Glass, digitizer and LCD from the rest of the phone. The phone itself was just put aside, i didn't shut it off or do anything because of the power and mute button didn't work.

Now 2-3 weeks after i bought a complete set with these 3 components. I repaired the phone, plugged in the charger and saw this http://bit.ly/J8bdGH but only with the lightning below the empty battery.

I expected that due to the phone being running out of power for almost 3 weeks.

But what i didn't expect is that it wouldn't turn on again like it's supposed to do. It charged for over 16 hours and still no sign. Although sometimes, like every 15-20 minutes, its makes that beep noise and shows the Apple logo just like when it't turning on. But then a circle spinny thing is showing, to indicate that the phone is working. Then the phones turn black and goes back to the red battery with the lightning.

My theory is just to change to battery but could the symptoms be showing that i have to do something different? :)

EDIT: Okay so i managed to repair my power button. And now i can turn on the phone when it's connected to a charger. It shows the first use startup, where i have to connect to itunes, thing and says that the battery level is 100%. But as soon as i pull the charger cable out of the phone it shuts down and nothing happens untill i put the charger back in. I tried to replace with a brand new battery and the same still happens.

Any ideas why this happens?

And thanks for the help :)

Theis, take a look at your logic board. There are two fuses, one is the charging fuse while the other one is the battery fuse. Use a multimeter to see if you have continuity on those. If not you will have to replace them. You can read more about the fuses and their location on here No Power, No Charging, No iTunes

Theis, I suggest that first you check no, double check, your work. Make sure that everything is connected the way it is supposed to. Your problem is double since you can not turn the power off. Once you check all your connection etc., and find that they are all appropriate, I would start with the battery. At least once you have a know good battery, it is a bit easier to trouble shoot. Sometimes, a total removal of the logic board will allow the components on the logic board to drain and reset anything that may have sustain some short circuit. Give it a try and see what you get. Hope this helps, good luck.
