Unless unplug the power cord and plug it back the PS4 will not display

After shutting it down, if I try to power it back on, the screen won’t show anything and there's no sound. However, I can still turn it off using the controller. So I suspect it might be related to the HDMI connection.

Here’s the interesting part: If I unplug the power cord from the PS4 after it’s turned off and then plug it back in, it usually boots up fine—there's video and sound, everything works as expected.

Looking at images of the motherboard online it seems that it has a removable coin cell battery on the board.

Most likely it is a cmos battery as what used to be used in laptop PCs

This battery is used to maintain the BIOS when the console is turned off and when its voltage gets too low this can cause the console not to start or to not start properly.

Here's the ifixit PlayStation 4 Motherboard Replacement guide that will help you to remove the motherboard so that you can remove the cmos battery and replace it. Unfortunately it is on the underside of the board, so you will have to remove the board to get to it.

If the battery's voltage is <2.5V DC or if it is >4-5 years old, replace it.

The battery model number will be on the battery. Most probably it's a CR2032 or similar which are available everywhere e.g. supermarkets

Thanks for your reply, I think what you said makes a lot of sense. I didn't realize that every time I plug and unplug the power cable, the system time resets to 1970. I had overlooked that part.
