New OEM battery installed, I get error when doing a mac diagnostic

Hi all,

I bought a new OEM battery and installed it in my 2015 15" MacBook Pro. Everything looks okay so far Cycle Count: 2, Condition: Normal.

Before using it, I performed a full calibration by following the instructions found on iFixit.

I used the CoconutBattery app to check the details, and it shows the battery health as good. However, it displays a different charge percentage compared to what’s shown on the system.

I ran a Mac diagnostic by pressing Option + D on my keyboard, and after the test finished, I received an error message.

I think you’re over visualizing things. Yes, the menu bar value is not the same as CoconutBatteries, that is often the case while under charge or heavy discharge, as the OS polling is different to what CoconutBattery is doing. Basically, CoconutBattery is a good bit of time behind what the OS is telling you.

It does look like things are good at the battery.

Now about the Diag error… Not that uncommon as you aren’t using a true OEM battery. You are using an independent built battery, as such the batteries micro code is not exactly the same as Apples so Diags sometimes will fire off the error as the expected value was not returned.

Apple doesn’t offer replacement batteries for this system as it’s no longer covered as an Apple serviceable item (they limit the service window to about 6 years from last manufacturer date). Besides, only in the last few years have they finally offered direct availability of parts in their self repair option which is more expensive and only for the newer M series systems moving forward.
