32 gig 4th gen and the display went black.

I have a 32 gig 4th gen and the display went black while using it. I tried to rest it, but there is no display to see if it is even working. I plugged it into my laptop and it did start itunes. I just had the screen replaced by a local repair company. I called them and they suggested these two things. I plugged it into the charger, but with no display I can't tell if it is charging.

You said you just had the screen replaced, did it work when you got it back for a little bit, or you couldn't see anything once you had the screen replaced?

it did work for 3-4 days after the replacement. I called them again and they suggested to restore it with Itunes. When I've tried this the screen does come on and show an apple and a progress bar. After it tries for a bit and the progess bar doesn't change (about 2 minutes) then I get an error message #1618. At about the same time the message appears the ipod screen flashes white and then goes dark. I have tried several times with the same result. Any thoughts.

Is the screen totally black? Or is it just the backlight that is broke? Hold the iPod up to a lamp and see if you can see if the LCD is working.

Dan for your error 1618, try this. "On Windows 7 or Vista, disable UAC in start>control panel>user accounts. restart PC. device disconnected, turn completely off. perform this procedure: open itunes. simultaniously connect cable and hold home button until itunes message "detected device in recovery mode" . acknowledge message, click restore." from here. Also turn off all anti-virus software as well as your firewall. Error 1618 can be caused by missing system files or corrupt data in iTunes installation. Try to uninstall iTunes, restart computer, install again. Also, iTunes tried to enter the Restore Mode, but the device turned back to the Recovery Mode. try something like TinyUmbrella and follow these steps. Hope this helps, good luck.
