Try cleaning the platen glass, the scanner glass and the laser scanning windows using a slightly damp (definitely not dripping) microfibre cloth.
It only takes a small speck on the glass to create a line on a scanned copy.
Go to p.65-p.70 of the user manual to see what to do.
