iPod wont charge and only shows apple logo
it wont hold a charge and will only show the apple logo when i turm it on

Try to charge it on an AC charger first. If it still does not hold a charge, make sure that your cable is properly working (may be try it on another iPod) try another USB port on your computer. Check your dock connector for any debris, bend or broken pins, corrosion etc. If this does not make any difference, I would suggest you change the battery and see if there is any change.
