Why is there two thin (purple and green) vertical lines? how to fix?

Hi,

I've noticed two thin colored lines going from top to bottom of my screen, on the right side. One is purple one is green. Sometimes they disappear, sometimes others appear and then disappear. What is the issue ? Is that the display, smc, pram..? I'm not sure what to do. I have the latest sequoia 15.2 software update.

Also sometimes the fan gets really loud real quick, even thought I'm not doing anything requiring a lot of power (browsing, email..).

Thanks a lot

Antoine

So I’ll need to check with an external monitor. Thanks for your answer!

Is there any replacement possible for the screen for that 2020 iMac ? It’s not too old?

Thanks

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Those kind of vertical lines normally indicate a hardware issue with the display itself, but if they are disappearing and reappearing in different areas, they might be caused by an issue with the graphics component or the RAM. You can test by using an external monitor. If they never show up on the external monitor then you can be fairly confident the issue is due to a fault with your display, in which case you would likely need to replace the display to resolve. Good luck!

Sadly, the display has a couple of TAB errors, this is when the ribbon cable that’s attached to the T-CON board or the glass LCD has become detached, sometimes pressing on the cables contact point can resolve the issue. As an example wedging some stiff foam against the mating surface. Here’s the guide to get to it iMac Intel 27" Retina 5K Display 2020 Display Assembly Replacement.

Once the display is fully off and the cable and sensor are removed you’ll need to carefully lift off the metal shield it’s taped along the edges. Once you’ve taken it off be very careful! The board has a few cables exiting to the LCD carefully press them down in case it’s the T-CON side that’s loose, now put things back together so you can reconnect it to see if you’ve solved the issue if not you’ll need to dig a bit deeper this time getting to the LCD it’s self. Hopefully you can save your self the cost of a replacement display. You do want to order the needed tapes (I would get two sets) and special cutter tool. When testing use some painters tape to hold the display on as you don’t want it to fall off as that could damage the logic board as well.

In any case here’s the info on getting a replacement if you decide to go that way: Apple P/N 661-16087 - 27" Retina 5K LCD Panel & Front Glass Assembly

Thanks a lot! I have one question @Dan, which step of the replacement process is it that you are mentioning? When you said pressing on the cables contact point.

@antla - You need to go to the very end and then two more steps! Taking the metal cover off from the back of the display to access the T-CON board where the ribbon cables start, and then if needed get to the LCD edge where the ribbon cables attach to the glass
