On pressing power button hard drive spins then stops, MBP won't start

I have a MacBook Pro, and on starting it the other day I pressed the power button, heard the hard drive spinning, then stop and the computer wouldn't start. So I thought this might be the hard drive, I put another one in and the same thing happened. Both hard drives read as externals just fine. I tried booting this up on a charger then without the charger with a full charge on the battery, and still the same thing. I am afraid this is the logic board, any suggestions before I buy a logic board? Thanks

Tough one. Try starting from the internal Optical drive with your installation disk to see if that drive works. Also, with one of the drives in, boot from the external. Then go under the Apple to "About this Mac" hit the more info box. Then go to the serial ATA and click on it and see if it says anything.

I'll try that once I get my new superdrive. That one bad, but I have a new one on the way.
