Can you change the storage on this laptop

The laptop Dell Chromebook 3100 2 in 1 I have needed new emmc. But can I also take the emmc out and after put a sd card with a os on it?

@li2 the Dell Chromebook 3100 uses eMMC storage which is soldered to the motherboard and it is not replaceable.

I meant that can you take out the emmc and put a sd card in the slot with Linux on it

@li2 no. The eMMC is soldered on the board. It is an IC and not slotted.

@li2 well, you could find the schematic for your logic board and determine to traces for the eMMC. then you need to find the circuit diagram for your SSD and create your SATA circuit for the SSD. Even if you can unsolder the old IC, your computers motherboard does not have the proper connections or firmware to use anything different.

If you want to try something different, try and find a larger eMMC IC and replace your existing one.
