Can you replace the circuit boards on an external hard drive?

I accidentally plugged in my laptop power cable to my WD external hard drive and basically fried the power source.

I placed the hard drive in a separate external case and when I tried to power it on nothing happened, but when I unplugged the hard drive from the external case the case lit up and the fan turned on instantly. I don't have any testing equipment out here, but I did notice a lot of the circuit board had burn spots most likely where it was also fried once the power adapter was removed. Is there any way to salvage the drive or replace the parts? I'm not educated in the arts of soldering either so sadly that's a no go as well.

Ok, so I looked at the model number and it's WD30EZRS - 00J99B0 would that PCB still work with that model?

Gary, yes it will. "WD30EZRS-11J99B0 » WD30EZRS-11J99B0 2060-771698-002 REV P2 PCB."

Gary, the only thing that you could try is to get a PCB from the same model and replace it. This may enable you to access your drive. However, the larger drives do have some issues with that. If it is important data that you have on the drive, you may consider a data recovery service$$$ or some electronic repair shop that might fix it for you $$. There is some great discussion about an issue like that on here. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks for the quick response! Do you know of any place I might be able to purchase one of those? I'm still rather new to the whole tinkering of electronics lol

Sorry I have switched it to an answer due to more information. Anyhow, what is the exact model of your drive? We might find something that will help you out.
