What 2TB hdd do I purchase to upgrade from 1TB?

hey there,

I'm new to this site, and nervous about opening up my iMac too, incase i do something wrong which would then cost me more than going to apple to do a upgrade..

i currently have a 27inch iMac 2.8Ghz i5 emc 2390 which i just upgraded to lion.

it came with the standard 1TB hdd and as i use it for everything from audio production to video and photo editing, i am running out of space.

i would like to upgrade it to a 2TB hdd which will give me the needed internal space.

i have checked my system and this is what i have:

so i think this is a seagate drive, so does it mean any seagate 2TB drive will work for my upgrade? coz i read somewhere on the site that i needed to get the same brand?

and how difficult is it to do this?

your directions and assistance is greatly appreciated.

thanks

There are problems with upgrading the hard drive that are well documented on this site. Frankly with this high dollar machine I would take a look at the options provided for upgrading your machine offered by OWC and see that you think. Get back with us after you have looked this over. Also remember you'll need backup storage equal to or greater than what you would not care to lose in case of a hard drive failure. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/turnkey/i...

wow.. i am definitely impressed with the link you provided me with..

i would be so happy if i am able to have 3TB and ability to upgrade to 32g ram using their upgrade system..

thank you so much for sharing this with me, i will contact them and learn more about the OWC option and see how i can get something working along those lines..

i don't know how this will work as i am in Australia.

thanks again.

unfortunately, OWC cannot assist with me being in Australia.. only option the sales lady said was to purchase a 2TB seagate barracuda and make sure its not the XT model, and i should be fine..

i am very interested in the eSATA port, but i don't know anyone in Australia and specifically in melbourne who can do that..

ok, thank you
