Hi everyone! My dad gave me a thinkpad a few months ago. it is a T470s model, product number 20JTS1FQ02. It will not charge anymore, and the battery level remains at 5%. This all happened shortly after a windows update, but I'm not sure the two are related.

I have an update available for the BIOS and the Intel Engine Management Firmware, however I cannot apply said updates until the battery has a minimum charge of 25%. I pulled the rear panel out, disconnected both batteries for about 30s, and then put them back in after pressing the "emergency" button on the back for about 15s. Do the batteries need to be installed for that button to do anything?

If my batteries are shot, I can replace them. I see on the site here there is a genuine replacement LiPo for the rear battery, but I can't seem to find the front one. I found one that works on the T460, but I can't verify its compatability with the T470s. Looks to be the same but I'd rather not buy it and be stuck with it if it does not work.

Any help would be appreciated, I need this laptop to work for my classes.

Calibrating the Battery

I guess this doesn't apply to you but others may find the note below helpful:

Note: Manually calibrate the battery by charging the battery to 100%. Allow the battery to drain down to 5% before charging again.

Generating a Battery Report in Windows 10

1. Right-click on the Start menu to bring up the menu

2. Command Prompt

Choose Command Prompt (Administrator) from the menu. Note that this must be the Admin version and not a regular command prompt.

3. Yes to UAC prompt

A prompt will appear to which you need to give permission

4. Command

Copy and paste powercfg /batteryreport /output "C:\battery_report.html" into the command prompt window. Note that for the pros you can designate the output to any directory. For simplicity, we are placing it in the C:\ root folder.

5. Open file

Using Explorer navigate to C:\ aka the root directory. You should see a file labeled battery_report.html. Double-click on it to open the file in your default browser e.g. Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Chrome, Opera
