Stribes, stuck in opening grey screen, after crash.

iMac Intel 24" EMC 2134 (model A1225)

I was online watching something, then my mac crashed got stuck and was repeating the same sound over and over. I switched the mac of the hard way, and when I turned it on again it had a weird pixel image and got stuck after the opening sound, logo and in the grey screen.

The screen was not normal, though.

I have been looking around on different sites (including this) and have tried the "alt+command+r+p"

and finally I ran first the small and then the big hardware test - the screen was still striped - but it came out clear.

When I restarted the computer again everything seemed to work perfectly normal. Apple came up with failure report that I did not save :( but sent in, and then when I went back to the same site where it crashed (Danish broadcasting - nothing obscure!) again - with weird pixels and frozen screen. When I restarted I was back to square one.

Now I am running the big hardware test again to see that once more can get it out its weird mode.

After this the machine crash again during a skype video call - no sound this time, and machine haven't come back since.

I am of course wondering if anyone have an idea of what is going on, and how I can fixit.

Thank You

I completed the big test again, once more it came out with no errors found on the hardware, and opened normally again after. Now I am being very careful to use a different browser (crome instead of firefox), and I still hope someone out there have some idea of what the problem might be.

Thank You, and have a nice weekend

A description of the sound would be helpful - so would a description of "weird" pixel image. Sounds like a flash player update may be needed. Check that you are running the current version.

I am sorry, I tried to upload a bunch of pictures of the screen, when I made the post, I don't where are now.

I am afraid the machine crashed again, and now it get stuck in the gray screen.

I have ran the big hardware test a number of times, and it have every single time come out with a ok. But it does not miraculously bring my mac to live, like it did the first two times

I have run a pram many times

It will not boot from the cd, when I do I get a kernel panic

so did a /sbin/fsck -fy twice and when it tries to reboot it gets stuck at the grey screen again.

I managed to get in to the single user mode by command s not command v.

The sound when the original crash was like when a cd player get stuck and plays the same sound over and over.

The stribes (vertical lines) er there all the time, when I run the hardware test, on the grey screen ect, in the single user mode.

Anything else I can do ?

I finally caved in, and send it to repair, the diagnose is the grafic card, and I agreed to get it changed.

Hook it up to an external monitor to isolate the problem and let us know your results. Boot from your system installation disk.

If I boot from the disk it goes into kernel panic every time. I am starting to suspect (from reading loads and loads of posts ect) it is the either a ram problem, or maybe the graphic or the video card. I am just wandering how normal it is that the hardware (expanded) does not pick that up ?

I will try to connect it to another screen and see what happens - and report back of course :)
