Weirdest CHarging issue ever with iPhone 3GS

Hi all,

I'm having the weirdest issue trying to charge my iphone 3GS. After removing the screen to clean dust from it, I am having problems getting it to charge. When it is fully build up, it wont charge or connect to computer via USB. However if the 2 screws at the bottom are removed and the screen assembly is lifted very slightly, i.e. 1mm up out of the case at the bottom, then the thing charges fine and works perfectly. problem is the minute I push the home button or put any pressure on the screen it pushes back down and wont charge again.

Can anyone offer any advice to what the problem might be?

Cheers,

Looks to me like your dock connector flex cable is not seated correctly in the motherboard.

Look for the cable numbered 4 in the bottom left corner of your phone and press it firmly in the socket.

Hopefully this should solve your problem.

Hi thanks for the comments, I have tried numerous times re-connecting it and still doesnt make a difference. If it was a dock connector problem should the mic and speaker still work when it isnt charging, as I dont seem to have an issue with these bits.

With a dock connector issue you can expect anything. But if you are certain that the dock connector is firmly in the logic board it could be that the dock connector itself is faulty. Could be something that is shorting the solder of the 30 pins connector or even be that the connector is (partly) desoldered.

You can check this out by checking the dock connector assy.

If you replace the dock connector I believe it will definately solve your problem.
