PS3 Slim 120 GB shuts off, not a power supply issue!

Ok, I have SCOURED the internet and cannot find help for this issue. I have a PS3 Slim 120 gb hard drive unit that is shutting off on its own. It gives no warning, and no errors. It just shuts off. I can power it back on but it shuts down again after a few seconds or immediately. At one time it would let me spin up a disk but now it shuts off faster. I replaced the power supply with a new one ordered off Ebay and same issue. I even took one out of another slim known to be working and same issue. I even tried reformatting the hard drive, same issue. I even pulled out the motherboard, fearing an overheating issue, and reapplied NEW QUALITY heat sink compound, still same issue. I am certain the motherboard is the issue, but I have never encountered this issue before, and I before I have the motherboard reflowed I wanted to make sure I wasnt missing anything. PLEASE HELP!!!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Check on your logic board and see if any of the components are charred etc....sounds like a power failure issue if you get no warning or any error at all.

I did, nothing obvious is broken or charred... I have a BGA chip rework station that I used for reflowing XBOX mb and PS3 PHAT mb... I have never had to reflow a slim mb before... not sure if it would solve issue or not...

It does sound more like either a Mosfet issue, caps, or thermistor ( least likely since they are used for the error messages and thermal shutdowns)

I have the same issue right now and replaced the power supply, but dit not solve it.

Model: CECH-2504B with 320GB hdd.

The problem is, when I turn on the ps3, directly the power will be cut to the standby led. The red light swtiches off. When I press the standby button again, the led will turn red again. When I disconnect the power from the power supply, hold the eject button, and switch on the power, the the fan will turn on to blow out the dust. So, that part is working.

For sure I will not reflow the gpu, because I am not sure it is related to that.
