No power to dvd drive?
Hi, I am trying to repair an xbox 360. The problem is that the dvd drive will not open. It powers on and takes me to the dashboard, but when I attempt to open the drive, the dashboard says it's opening but nothing happens. I've used two different dvd drives(one of which I know is brand new, and yes I switched the logic boards when I did this). I also switched the SATA and power cables just in case. My last conclusion is that the drive isn't being supplied power. One last piece of information that may be useful is that on the logic board there is a thick black substance that I have no clue as to what it is. Does anyone know what could be going wrong?
Is this a good question?

Not sure about the "thick black substance" on your logic board. Any way you could post an image of that. The only thing I can think of right now is that you have a leaking cap.

Thanks very much. I was beginning to come to that conclusion myself. I am positive the cables are connected properly so that only leaves an issue with the motherboard. Hopefully it's something that a little solder can fix. Again, thanks for the help

Definitely not a leaky cap ;-)
