Boots only sometimes, black screen-video issue?
Hi all,
I have a MacBook Pro 15", A1226. Last three digits of serial number are X91. Here's the issue: when I turn the system on, sometimes I only get the fans to spin and nothing else. Other times, it will chime, and the hard drive will click a bunch, like it's booting normally. I don't get any image on the screen (not even a dim one), or an external monitor. The front white light stays solid and isn't dim. I've tried switching al the ram around and using on ly one stick, no difference. Is this a video issue, and could it be a cause of why the computer won't always boot?
Is this a good question?

Ah! Fixed it! Knew it was the video. Wrapped the computer in a blanket with it plugged in and turned on. Kept it in there for about an hour or so, then pulled it out (YEEEOUCH it was hot as the dickens!) and turned it off. Waited for a few minutes for it to cool, then turned it on. Nothing. Closed the lid in fustration...then noticed the apple logo lit up! Opened it up...booted like a charm. Been working since!

Here's my new question: how can I prevent this from happening again, i.e., the video overheating? Does it mean I need to apply new thermal paste to the video chipset? What can I do?
