Must I remove the Drive to get the Disc out?

I followed the guide to Step 13 and wondered if I could just remove the cover from the Optical Drive to get the CD out instead of removing the entire drive.

Even though it's a 2006 MacBook, the SuperDrive was replaced by the Depot in Oct. 2011 along with the logic board. They did not replace the tape and I'd rather not remove and reuse it if I don't have to.

When trying to start the MacBook, I do not even get the startup chime and I'd like to try to boot from the Install CD.

Thanks for your help, but I guess my question wasn't well stated. I followed the guide in this Link:

MacBook Core Duo Optical Drive Replacement

Can I skip steps 14 through 30 and then go to the link you provided? In other words, can I remove the cover from the optical drive without removing the complete drive from my MacBook?

You'll have to remove the drive as there are screws on the sides that have to come out and you can't get to them with it still in the machine.
