iPhone 3GS will not take charge,shows usb plug interesting?

I have a real problem. Phone started to shut down randomly and would not take a charge and shows plug symbol(usb). I have changed charger, battery(correct for 3gs) and charge port. I have updated etc via Itunes. still no joy phone works fine on new battery until power drops out. Do you think this is terminal and a motherboard failure?

Catherine, given the fact that you do have A. a new battery B.a new charger C. a new dock connector, there are only a few things you could do. Change /use a known working USB cable. If that does not resolve it, you can check the charging and USB fuse on the logic board and see if you have continuity. If those work out and are okay, you have deeper problems, like the power management IC.
