Very good chance the laser is dead. Not sure why, but the laser on the new slim system, do not even make it 2 years.

Very easy to replace, if you are good at taking things apart.

Lasers are very cheap too, $10-$15 each.

jose, I would start of with a DVD lens cleaner and see if that makes a difference. If that does not work, you can try and replace the laser assembly or the optical drive.

how would i start that?

oh, I am sorry, You can purchase the DVD cleaning disk from most major department stores. If you do not have any department stored, you can disassemble it and use high percentage isopropyl alcohol and clean the lens.

ill give that a go. seems like a good idea. thanks.

hitpatel is correct. The majority of the time it is a bad laser. I never even attempt a disc cleaner. Change out the laser. If that doesn't work, the board in the DVD drive is probably bad, at which time, you need a new console.
