after LCD replacement black screen once OS boots.

After LCD replacement on A1226 the computer powers up with the grey screen and apple logo, so the screen seems to work, but then the screen goes black once the OS starts to boot. external monitor works fine. In system preferences the lcd screen is not detected by the OS. Screen was bought from reputable dealer... any help? urgent!

Check your data display cable connection. The apple logo comes from the EFI chip... not your HD. Check the display in Aplications->Utilities->System Profiler: Graphics/Displays. When not detected in System Profiler it's not "connected" to the logic board.

I have had very similar problems with this model of MacBook Pro's. One thing I have found, I know this sounds a bit ridiculous and I have the hardware to prove it, the Ram memory chips seem to fail in these MackBook Pros rather frequently. In particular the Samsung variety. Replace them one at a time, starting with the bottom slot. Chances are very good this could be your sneaky problem.
