3g problem I have never seen asked before. Help needed!

Please help. I have an I phone 3g which I can do nothing with. When i switch it on all looks ok. I get the apple logo then the connect to I tunes logo. The display then begins to deteriorate and I end up with a flickering mess akin to something out of the Matrix!!

I have tried restoring from DFU and end up getting errors 21 or 1604. Is this a hardware problem or a corruption somewhere else?

It sounds very much like a power issue..ie the battery lacks charge or isn't giving adequate output/about to run out of charge. Try charging your iphone for an hour or so, make sure that the charging image comes on when you do this..it may be the dock needs cleaning if you are not getting charge to the phone. Use a toothpick to clean out all the goop that accumulates where you connect the cable to the phone. Let us know if that helps, you may need a new battery..
