My Laptop dies when not on a charger
If my T440p Lenovo is not plugged into a wall socket it dies.

Over the course of their life batteries will lost their charge, your laptop is more than 10 years old and has lost its ability to hold a charge, try to replace the battery with the one attached, and all you will need is a small phillips head that you probably have in your house or someone else you know does.
