Why can I not hear the caller?

i had trouble with myi phone 3gs would not charge .I changed the battery and the dock connector,this fixed the problem. the problem i have now, when i make a call the person on the end can hear me,but i can not hear them . if i put it on loudspeaker or use headphones then i can hear them.any clues to my problem. thanks dave

Options

may be a loose connection on #3 connector, this one turns the lcd backlight off when on a call and its the earspeaker.

sometimes get loose or misaligned on the reassambly process, open again and check.
