black screen, no chime, front light on
I arrived at the conclusion that the logic board was bad, without testing with another monitor. (not good). Anyway, I have the logic board out of the machine. There is some leaky stuff on the top of a 120 uF 16v capacitor. Bad cap, I guess. The other three electrolytics look ok. Serial number QP62408RU2R, EMC2104. There are no LEDs in this model.
I'd like to replace the caps and replace the heat paste on the processor, and other two sinks, then put it back together and see. Comments, please, am I going about this correctly (leaving out the issue of the external monitor test.) Thanks.
Is this a good question?

I forgot to mention that this is an Intel machine. Yes I recapped a G5 with the kit from jimwarholic. I don't think that Jim has Intel info on his site. Have you seen bad caps on early Intels? Second, can anyone point me to info on removing processor heat sink? thanks.
