iPhone 4 does not sync/charge after home button replacement

I completely took apart my iPhone 4 GSM over the weekend and reseated the home button because it was not very responsive. The home button works perfectly now but I have managed to break something in the process. What i broke i am not sure of but i hope the great people of ifixit can help me out. :)

My iPhone 4 can no longer sync to computers at all. It also will not charge unless it is turned off or in sleep mode.

Things that i have tried so far

1. Different USB cables

2. Using wall charger/different computers

3. Hard Reset

4. Re-take apart and put back together

5. Clean all connectors with rubbing alcohol

6. Restore/DFU mode won't connect to PC

So far it looks like i might need to replace the dock connector. However, if it can still charge when it is turned off, would that make sense?

All replies will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have checked the dock connector and it appears to be in working order. I cleaned the connector with rubbing alcohol to ensure no dirt/dust was giving improper contact. All input/output devices (i.e. speaker, mic, home button) are functioning normally so I doubt it's the dock connector. What else might be causing this?
