Why my laptop use battery when the charger is connected?

Why when I have a video call on Skype, my MBP 15" late2011 use power from the charger and from the battery(processor used between 20-30%)? In games I understand because it's uses the entire processor and gpu and needs more power than the magsafe 85w can offer. Is this a normal behavior or I need to get my MBP in service? Thanks
