Epson aculaser C1700 refuses to print any page past the first?

I got this printer yesterday. So it is new, out of the box. I connect it with the USB cable on a Pentium 4 Windows XP and plenty of ram and want to print a document.

No matter what I do, install drivers, uninstall and reinstall from the internet, the printer prints the 1 page of any document and then paper jams on the second.

It has no problem printing 1 page documents. But if it is multiple page doc, pdf, internet page, it jams on second page.

So the question obviously is what is going on?!

Of course there are, but I would think that A4 is global default more or less.

It seems that the printer had as paper input some sort of Letter dimensions. Once this was changed to A4, it started printing normally (after frustrating me to the max). Also under windows 7, there is a pop up message indicating that the paper size is wrong, on windows xp though such a message didn't pop up making my life difficult. So it seems that changing the default paper size solved the problem. However epson could be a doll and fix this problem by assuming that the default paper size is A4 rather than something else

good job in getting it done. Since Epson is a worldwide company and there are countries that use different paper sizes, as well as users using different sizes of paper, I don't foresee A4 as a default. ;)

Thanks for the excellent advice!!! Was absolutely frustrated that could not get past page 2, now it works! Simply changing to A4, who would have thought something so small could hold everything up
