My original hard drive went bad. I bought a Seagate XT Momentus 500GB HHD and swapped them out. I am using the install disk for Snow Leopard. When I get to the step where it asks me where I want to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard, the hard drive icon does not appear for me to select.

Set the jumpers on the drive to 1.5 GB ( usually the first two pin sets). This slows down the drive so that it can be seen by Disk Utilities.

Make sure that you use Disk Utility to format the drive before you try to install the OS on it. If you do not format the drive then it will not show up when you try to install the OS.
Disk Utility is on the Snow Leopard disk.
