Battery replacement went smoothly--why won't it charge?

The original battery for my iPhone 3GS--a little over two years old--was no longer holding a charge, so I opted for a replacement from iFixIt to try to address the problem.

The process of replacing the battery went smoothly, thanks to the great guide and photos. However, I let the battery charge overnight (for about 7 hours), and in the morning it was still not above the minimal charge level. (Added to this, when I connect it to iTunes, my computer doesn't even "see" the iPhone.)

I've tried the various fixes helpfully mentioned on this site: cleaning the 30-pin charging connector, making sure that ribbon #4 is firmly seated, making sure the screw underneath the "do not remove label" is tight, trying different chargers...but I cannot get the phone to charge at all. Any suggestions? Or was I simply sold a dead battery?

blissstevenj, easy way to verify. Replace the new battery with your old one. Should your old one charge, you got a bad battery. If so, let the ifixit staff know, I am sure they will make it right. If not, double check your work. Hope this helps, good luck

Thanks for the suggestion. I swapped the old battery back in, and it did charge. So, I'll probably give it one more shot with the new battery--just in case I hadn't gotten the prior time right--and if it still doesn't charge, I'll go back to iFixit, as you say.

Thanks for accepting my answer. There have been plenty of battery issues over the last year, and it seems that ifixit has always backed up their sales with good service. Best of luck to you.
