Sometimes my iPod starts with sad iPod support screen?

My 5th Gen 30gb iPod works great; except now after it's been off with the hold switch on for a long time it starts with the sad iPod support screen. If I do a reset it will start-up fine and work great. I can turn it off set the hold switch throughout the day and it starts just fine, but when I do the same thing at night the next morning its starts with the sad iPod screen again. I have noticed that when this happens I do not hear the HD spinning like I do after a reset or a normal start-up. I had the battery replaced by a pro a year ago and it still holds a good charge, and I have had no problems with my PC or iTunes either. Help, any ideas?

shaddock4, it does sound like your HDD is getting sticky. It does happen with the older drives and will eventually lead to failure. I would start thinking about replacing the drive as well as the cable.

Thanks oldturkey0, I guess I'll start shopping for a new HD and connector cable!

i recommend installing a CF card(32GB) ona a ZIF to CF conveerter board, and wrap in tape so it dosen't short out, this is cheaper and more reliable
