How do I clean keyboard after coffee spill?

A few days ago I had spilled a cup of coffee..an entire cup that is..onto my keyboard. I instantly flipped it upside down to drain out the coffee, then proceeded to clean up the remaining coffee as best as I could. I had turned off the mac while doing this. This is my work computer so I turned it on the next day to find that one of the keys wasn't working, the q key, then a few min later the rest were not working. I turned it off and tried to reboot but it wouldn't. So the next day I took it to the apple store where they preceded to tell me it would be 1300 dollars to repair ( I believe they were just planning on replacing the keyboard and the logic board when they could have tried to clean it) So I decided to clean it myself and see what happened. Long story short I took it apart and cleaned it as best as I could. There are a few screws that are being stubborn and wont come out so I cant get the optic drive out. I fear that if I keep trying to force them out I will grind them down to the point where Id have to drill em out. Anyway, I figured the computer wasn't turning on because the keyboard shorted out and it tripped the computer. I don't know if that makes sense but after cleaning the dirty parts of the computer and the connector of the keyboard to the logic board(which had major residue on it) the computer now turns on. The problem I am having now is that the keyboard wont work. So my question would be what is the best way of going about this, should I peel that black tape up and just clean it till it looks good and if I do peel that black tape up will it go back on or will I have to get some new tape or is there some other way to go about this. I am a first timer with this stuff and your website has been an awesome help. A friend recommended it and its been a lifesaver (and money saver =D) Thanks for all the work that you guys have put into this site!

+like that first liquid spill link, forgot it existed. Coffee is really tacky and leaves a whole heap of milk/sugar/coffee everywhere it's been. I'd clean the keyboard, you've nothing to lose as it doesn't work in it's current state anyway. You may find that once you've got rid of the white with one, it works. Good luck.
