iPod parts interchangeability, need to fix weird problem

I bought a 160gb 6th gen iPod Classic from Ebay and when it arrived I found something amiss. I did research and found out that the ipod is actually a 6th gen ipod in a 5th gen shell/case. The serial # "in" the ipod says it is a 6th gen Classic, and the serial on the back of the ipod says its a 5th gen video.

Finally to the point...can I go buy a 6th gen front/back plate and click wheel and have it function properly?

If it is a 6th gen iPod it would definitely work. I would go ahead and buy a complete 6th gen case, They are available in places like this for a total of around $10. Just make sure that you truly have a 6th gen. I'd be doing a little bit more research. Hope this helps, good luck
