Water Damage or Keyboard ribbon causing keyboard failure?

Recently had some liquid spill into the keyboard of my Macbook Pro. I took out the logic board and checked everything over and there didn't appear to be any residue or evidence of liquid contact at all. When I put everything back together I was having a hard time getting the keyboard ribbon back into the slot, and in the end I wasn't sure whether it was in all the way. After 30 minutes of trying, I figured I'd give it a go as is.

Machine booted, and seemingly worked fine, other than the trackpad not working at all, and about half of the keys on my keyboard. My question is could the ribbon being not in all the way cause only some keys to stop working? Or is this more likely to be caused by the liquid damage?

If it's from the liquid then I'll clearly have to buy a new upper case but I thought I should check about the ribbon before I go and buy one. Much appreciated folks.

I have yet to see a case of liquid spill into this machines keyboard that did not result in having to replace the upper case. Was your keyboard working before you tore it down?

I didnt power it on until I tore it down because I waned to check the logic board for residue / clean it if there was any before I powered it up. :/

We had a tea spill on the on a MBP, over the keyboard and all and after letting it dry for a day (by standing it upside down - v-shape) and giving a the inside a clean with Isopropyl alcohol (didn't remove the motherboard) it has been going solid for more than an year.

However every few months, whatever you type starts appearing in uppercase (both letters and numbers), so we would remove the back panel, remove and clean the keyboard connector with Isopropyl and its good to go again.

This was on a 13 inch 2010 MBP.

opeyemi, you want to start off by asking your own question. https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/Advice/Ma... that way you may actually get more of an answer than by adding your question as a comment.
