I'm going to try to help but your question is not very clear. It sounds like you can boot from a external USB drive.

Put the installation disk in and boot holding the "C" key down. Go to Utilities - Disk Utility. See if this sees the new internal hard drive. Give the new drive one partition and format it GUID. Then try installing the system.

What is the model of the drive you are trying to install? Is it a SATA?

When you were booted from the CD, could Disk Utilities see the new internal drive? Do you have any jumpers on the new drive? Are you booting from the internal CD or an external hard drive?

When i Booted from cd with internal HDD only, Disk utility does not recognized and could not see internal hdd. restart with opt key down does same result-can see or cd only,or with out cd only blank gray screen with cursor on it.I am booting from internal hdd. Jumpers -not sure that i know how to use jumpers,or simply do not know about it.Do you know how to use it?( just macking sure that hdd board connector is clean ,i cleaned it up from any corrosion an films, and let it stay for 24 hours to dry up by air...let you know next day,Thanks

Try using the old hard drive and see if it will work. Do not use any jumpers on the drives. Have any of these been formatted before?

im having the same problem, can anyone help me what to make my hardisk recognize. The disk utility only show the OS X lion CD and if you try installing the lion,it goes up to the point of selecting the hardisk where again i cant see the hardisk....I tried to put my orginial Fujitsu 250 GB hardisk 5400 RPM and a Segate 500GB hardisk 7200RPM...however, i installed LION on 250GB harddisk and connected to another macbook using the sata usb cable and that macbook picked OS X Lion. Please help me out here...thanks!

Hi ,i had same problem several times during repair-this is logic board fail-nothing u can do about but notrh bridge may not work correctly or connector is bad(missing pins)...without microskop, repairing ,resoldering, reboling ))logic board.... u can try get rid of DVD ROM and install hard drive internally as a second HD(sure with no first one)...that mean u will boot up from it,and will download some files and etc.Or use your Mac as minimac, imac but not laptop anymore. This is temporary solution b/c this hard drive would be not a primary...You are dealing with broken logic board, period.
