Stopped charging and stopped working :-(

Hello - I have had my much loved iPod for about 3 yrs - it gets a pretty hardlife as lives in the car 90% of the time. Recently it stopped charging and now has gone totally flat - I can not charge thru the car or computer nothing seems to bring it to life. Is there any hope for it? Suggestions please?

It can simply be a bad battery, It is 3 years old and the battery has endured many cycles.
