sam, it is my experience that if a certain region of the digitizer (touch screen) does not work, it needs to be replaced to be fixed. This is due to broken contacts within the digitizer. Here are some directions that you might find helpful, good luck.

Hi Sam,

By the sound of it, the digitizer cable may have become dislodged from its connector on the board. My suggestion is, if you are confident to do so, pop the screen up on your phone, and gently push on connector number 2 to push it back into place, try using this video guide to get your screen off, all you'll need is a Phillips cross-head screwdriver, and a small suction cup. Hopefully this should solve your problem, and have your phone fully operational again.

hey, I have the same problem, only that that part actually works if I flip the screen in landscape mode, and certain apps like music player get the touch commands, even if laggy. Restoring didn't work. What do yau think?

Sounds like my problem, except now I can’t even unlock my phone with the passcode because of this. I need to replace the battery, do I need to replace the screen too? I need this phone. It was working fine earlier.
