optical Drive Not recognized cd's

I just purchased and installed an Optical drive from your company and for some reason the drive wont read CD's. DVD's are no problem but CD's just spin then their spit out. Am I missing something or is the drive faulty??

I had the same issue on the iMac that I'm on now. I updated the firmware on the drive and in my case it solved the problem.

How do you update or upgrade your firmware to solve the problem. I am not the most computer literate.

Run "Software Update" from your "Apple" menu at the top left of your screen in the pull down. If it is the drive that was made for that specific iMac you can find firmware updates on Apples support site with instructions. You may want to call the company that sold it to you, I assume you got it from iFixit, they may be able to help.

I had the same issue too, but with my original Superdrive on a Macbook. I could read and write DVD, but it wouldn't read CD and shoddy brand DVD, nor could read Dual Layer DVD anymore.

I used a Laser Lens Cleaner for Audio CD, and it just got better. However, I'd too call iFixit before attempting any other operation on a unit supplied by them, they may need to know in detail whatever operation you did if the unit is effectively defective and needs to be replaced.
