Disk Utility cannot see the installed optibay with extra HDD?

Hi,

I recently attempted to install an extra HDD to my macbook by putting SSD drive onto the primary location & using the optibay to store the data-files.

After installing it according to instructions with all connections checked, I started the machine & after bootup everything works fine on the primary , but for some reason I cannot see the Opti-bay drive (secondary) on the disk utility.

Is there a firmware update or a program that I can run to diagnose connection problems?

My current bootrom version is : MB51.007D.B03

SMC version is : 1.32f8

Just as a sidenote I can physically hear the drive is spinning when machine is on. (pretty ascertain this is not the fan noise) I am assuming therefore it is getting power, just something else amiss..

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks,

Matti

I would suspect the cable. Double check the drive connections. If your old optical drive was working before you removed it, reinstall it and ckeck if it's still working. If not then replace the cable.

I have swapped to new optibay & flex-cable , but it has still not worked. So I am afraid the problem may be with the logic board..... Might need to take it to someone to have a look at as This may be above and beyond my abilities..

I have the same problem. I hope it's just the cable. I was not being very careful and I can see a little tear in the cable..

My hdd also spins but is not recognized. My optibay didn't work at first so i put back the dvd and it's powered too but not seen in disk utility.

Tell me if you have already tried with replacement cable (922-9032).
