Why doesn't the lower half of screen does not respond to touch?

My iPhone 4 screen cracked awhile back, since i was no longer under warranty and it cost $200 to get screen replaced by Apple i purchased a replacement screen from directfix.com. I replaced the cracked screen with the new one, the iPhone turns on and works fine except that the lower section where you slide to unlock doesnt react to touch if there is some type of button such as call or cancel. But if its slide to unlock the screen works. I have taken it apart to make sure nothing is broken or if anything wasn't connected and everthing seems to be fine. Im at a loss of what to do, as I am trying to contact AX Micro (directfix) on either getting another screen or a refund. I can slide to unlock phone but anything else and the phone doesnt react to touch on the lower inch of the screen right about the home button.

James, it does sound like a bad digitizer. It is my experience that if an area of the screen is unresponsive, a replacement of the assembly will fix this. Hope this helps.
