Do I need to buy a new screen?

My A1260 works perfectly when plugged into an external display, but I cannot get any picture on the laptop screen. The screen is recognised in System Preferences->Display->Arrangement. Adjusting the brightness does change the brightness of the LED backlight, but the screen is still black.

Do I need to buy a new screen? If there is a chance it's something else I'd like to try that, as the screen is quite expensive.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Not sure i understand the description of the problem, the laptops display does brighten when adjusted with nothing on it? or does the external display brighten and the laptops display remains unchanged.

@Brain, The external display works perfectly. When I adjust the brightness of the laptop screen (internal display?) I can see the brightness changing- but there is no video. I just bought and installed a new LCD, but I still get no video. What now? :/

My understanding of the inverter is that it provides an AC to power the LED backlight. The backlight is definitely on, there is just no video - so I think I can rule the inverter being broken out. Since my external display is functioning fine, it can't be the nVidia chip. Could it be the video cable?

Displays with LED backlights do not have inverters. @Charlie Murray you state in your question that the MBP screen is black. In your comment here you state that the backlight is definitely on, just no video. If your backlight is on and no video then you have a blank white screen. Please clarify the state of your attached MBP display. On further note, if it is indeed black, take a flashlight or other light, point it at the screen when the system is on - can you see any faint images of your desktop on the screen like this??

I bought a brand new screen. Didn't fix the problem. Could it be the video cable?

by

@Charlie Murray - It could be the video cable, it could be a number of things. Please answer the questions in my previous comment. I do not have access to the laptop and you have given conflicting information.

Well the back of the screen is really bright, but the screen is blank. I inadvertently unplugged the video cable while it was still on, and the screen went completely white. I cannot see any faint images on the screen.
