Where can I find the right inverter cable?

Hello everyone!

I recently had to replace my LCD which wasnt an issue thanks to ifixit, but when i replaced it the cable that extends from the lower corner and plugs into the inverter board was 0.5 cm too short!! This was annoying because it was supposed to fit A1181 model apple computers.

I ordered an extension and had to wait a month for it to ship from China. After I stuffed that extension into the clutch cover my screen worked!... for about 15 hours. Then It freaked out and went blank. Not off, but blank grey. I can still control the backlight brightness but nothing is on the screen.

Is it the cable thats the issue? can someone please tell me if there is a specific part i need to order and if i have to wait ANOTHER month to turn my desktop back into my laptop?

I can describe the situation further to the best of my ability if you need it. Id just like a little expert guidance. Thanks for listening (reading) my rant!

I have been hooking it up to a monitor for some time now, so i know the graphics are all there. And there has never been anything wrong with the LVDS cable.

here is a link to what i bought, without this the cable isnt long enough to reach the inverter

Looks like your problem is not with the inverter cable but with the video (LVDS) cable that carries the video from the logic board to the LCD panel. According to your description the screen is lightened but there's no video on it.

First step is to double check the LVDS connection to the logic board and to the LCD panel. If you have a mini DVI to VGA adapter you could also connect the MB to an external monitor to verify the graphic chip functionality and also boot the machine from your installation disk and check if it could be a software or hard disk issue.

I checked the connection and I know my graphics chip is ok. I really do think its the extender I linked above.

Can no one recommend a place to get a new one?

The video cable has nothing to do with whether or not your graphics chip is OK -- it has to do with getting the video signal onto your screen, as Lemerise indicates, and the dull grey light you are seeing is what you get when you have an inverter light, but no video signal. Personally, I would start by returning the screen to whoever sold you the wrong one. If the cable is not long enough, the screen was clearly not designed with the A1181 in mind, and to use the wrong screen in your computer is likely to cause you to chase your tail, as you are doing. Make the company that screwed up solve the problem for you. A 3" long extension cable is a simple device and is very unlikely to be the issue, unless you have smashed it in there with such force that it has become crimped.
