Kia 2003 KIA MAGENTIS SE V6 SP H-MATI

I have just bought a Kia 2003 KIA MAGENTIS SE V6 SP H-MATI and the electric sunroof doesn't work either there possibly a part of the tracking missing for opening and closing the sunroof missing. Where can I get this repaired in Edinburgh Scotland. I have tried Kia Belmont in Edinburgh and they have advised me it would cost over £1,000, which I am not willing to spend. Do any of you know of any websites or any places that might sell a used sunroof (I know that might sound daft) or know of a place that might repair sunroofs. Thanks

If you can give me any info my e-mail address is lorraineandpeter270505@gmail.com.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

What does the sunroof do when you try to operate it? Does it do anything at all? Does it make a noise? Does it try to open or close? Or does it not move at all? The first step is to determine if the problem is electrical (fuse, short circuit, switch, motor) or mechanical (tracking mechanism).

Have you tried a body shop? They are usually pretty good about repairing those. Just like Greg R is requesting, give us more detail about your sunroof problem. Are you willing to work on it yourself?

Dear Greg R & oldturkey03.

Many thanks for replying to my original message. I am mechanically illiterate therefore it would be a disaster for me to even contemplate working on the roof myself! The problem I believe is that a piece of the tracking rail is missing and that is why the sun roof won't work. To explain further I come from Edinburgh and purchased the car, after it had a thorough DEKRA car inspection on behalf of the AA. The Engineer thought the electric roof might be jammed somehow, but have now found the car salesman who sold me the car explained that part of the metal tracking for the roof is missing and that is why it won't work at all.

I am trying to find a used replacement sun roof but present to no avail. A brand new one would cost me £1,000+ and that is without labour charges, and I certainly wouldn't consider going down that road, because the car is valued at £1300. Thank you for your time Peter A

Peter, I agree with OldTurkey's advice to locate an auto body shop to take a look at this for you. I have worked on the sunroof of my son's car, and it was terribly awkward and complicated. If parts are missing from the assembly, they must be replaced. Ordering individual parts can be difficult without a thorough knowledge of the car on which you're working -- and then you have the hassle of installing. I understand your reluctance to spend an amount of money equivalent to the value of the entire car! Best of luck to you.
