Replacing Glass Digitizer Hot Glue Gun?

Hi,

I'm changing my first iPad 2 digitizer tomorrow, and would like to know if using a glue gun to reattach the screen is a good idea. I don't have much experience with a glue gun, but I don't see it being a problem.

Any advice would be great, thanks in advance.

Thanks for the replies.

I went with the 3M adhesive strips, looks like its done the job.

One question though. Does the strips need time to set?? I've seen some videos on youtube and some say to set the iPad down and put something of weight on the back and let it set for 24hrs.

Is this necessary?

They really Should be at full strength immediately after putting some pressure on the digi screen. But I know what you mean, it kinda seems like they don't quite hold as well as the factory strips. Or at least that's what I thought. But they do hold good enough I think. I have thought about adding some weight too but I guess if you don't use too much you should be ok..sometimes I'll push on my screen just to make sure it's making all the contact it can to the strips..

So, did you have any trouble with the wifi tearing or pulling off or anything?

by

I had a few problems to be honest lol. The wifi tore a little on one of the two screws. But it seems to work fine, and I also nicked the power/volume ribbon, it didnt look like I broke any connection but when I put it back together the power button didnt work, so I had to change that as well. Very tedious job changing that. Oh well, atleast I know for next time.

You should use a 3M double sided clear tape to do the job. Just google:

iPad 3M double sided tape

to find the place where you can buy it.

or buy this iFixit product:

+ Double sided tape is what holds the glass on the MBP unibodies. I've never done one of these, is there a reason for the clear tape? I've used the 3M black double sided tape for a great many things. I am amazed by how strong it's bond is.

No you're right ABCellars, doesn't need to be clear, in fact it's the same kind of tape that you used for the MBP glass panel. The tape is hidden by the 1" black ridge around the display.

I suppose you could but I don't see any way you can do the entire area properly without the first lines of glue cooling and then not sticking. That stuff cools fairly fast. If you had a way to do the entire perimeter neatly and very fast you maybe could...

....and hopefully you will never have to open it again. It would be an absolute mess
