Install a Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB

Can I Install Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB in my Macbook Core Duo A1181?

I have seen some response, but none is specific for my model, and the 750GB version (wich is better than the 500GB as I have read.). Everything indicates that it should work but I want confirm before making the purchase.

Thank you very much in advance.

OWC seems to say it will work. Link provided for their hard drive. If you have further questions I would contact them directly--they provide good advice. You can also check with ifixit--select parts below the photo of the computer and you will find a similar 750 GB drive. They would also help you in being sure you have the right part. If you check the ifixit unit and scan down they have a compatibility chart. Good luck.

Sounds like you have a bad one. Did you get a replacement? I have one and it works just fine.

I have the same problem. Installed it in a Mac Mini core 2 duo 1.83 GHz, but it did not show up on the desktop or appear in the list with Disk Utility so that it could be formatted. It's not an easy tear-down with the Mac Mini, so I am trying to figure out if I should try again, maybe it's not fully pushed into its socket or something like that. But if there is a chance that it's a bad drive, I'd rather not go through the tedious effort to take down, check everything and put it back together, if it's not going to work. Any hints about why this HD might not show up on the desktop?

I installed a 500GB Seagate Momentus XT on my early 2008 Macbook Core Duo. I had none of the problems described above. The drive was immediately recognized and it has worked very very well. Although I have maxed out the RAM to 6GB, I think that the drive increased the performance generally. Very quick startup and shutdown.

From what I have read about similar problems with the drive working INSIDE an older Mac, I would suggest making sure that your interface connection in the mac is SATA III and not SATA I or II. If it is not, a replacement SATA III connector is supposed to allow the data volume and speed needed to get old and new working together.
