Did I kill it?

Tried my first battery replacement or my 3rd Gen iPod Touch. Completely destroyed the plastic edge and four plastic prying tools trying to get the screen off. The rest of the disassembly went fine including the removal of the battery terminal with the soldering iron. Put on the new battery and reassembled, Plugged it in and I get the low battery icon, didn't charge overnight.

check your charging port for dirt etc, if that's fine then check your solder really has good contact with the flex/redo the job. I bought 3 batteries that were bad for just one ipod...sometimes it happens as they sit on the shelf so long.
