iPod will not sync or charge

When I plug my iPod into the wall or my computer, nothing happens (I have tried multiple cables.) If I listen very closely to the device, there is a faint high-pitched sound that makes noise for a second or two, then stops. This noise repeats non-stop. I'm not sure where the problem may lie, although I really want to get the data off of it. If I cannot easily repair this, what would be the easiest way to retrieve the data from its hard drive?

jwkicklighter, in case you an not repair it, you can purchase a USB-to-Zif adapter at places like ebay. They are around $5 and let you use your HDD as an external drive. Pretty straight forward. To fix it, check your dock connector first, make sure no pins are bent or broken and that you do not have any corrosion or debris in the connector. Then you will have to disassemble it and check the battery connection as well as the power management IC on the back side of your logic board and see if it looks okay. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thank you for the response. Since I'm not too worried about keeping the iPod, I'll likely be getting a transfer cable to retrieve the data, like you mentioned. Thanks again!
