Not using battery power just outlet power

On my mid-2012 MacBook Air I have to plug it into the outlet to make it come on. It won’t use the battery that is inside of it. I replace the battery but still not using it also I have tried to do a SMC reset but that didn’t work either.

I have that already and when I click it on it. It doesn’t show how much count cycles it has and I tried to get the battery icon to show up on the menu bar but it doesn’t want to show it at all.

@jordanchapman - Can you post a snapshot of CoconutBattery so we can see things.

@jordanchapman - Bingo! This is a bad battery. The micro-controller within the battery is bad. You’ll need a replacement battery from the store you got the battery from if it’s new otherwise it’s time for a new battery.

Ok I just put a new battery into from my friends computer and still shows the same thing. Also it still doesn’t come on when the battery is plugged in.

@jordanchapman - Did you damage the battery’s cable/connector? The data connection from the battery is not getting through to SMC logic.

Did this system have a liquid spill? As corrosion damage can also damage the copper traces on the logic board. Time to take the logic board fully out and do a deep inspection. Look at the back side of the keyboard area for staining, look for discoloration and damaged components on the back side of the logic board. Did you use a metal tool to get the battery connector disconnected? That could have shorted out the data lines on the logic board.

Nine out of ten times this is a bad battery!
